The Laurel County Public Library's Susan Fawbush was announced as an inaugural Fresh Face recipient at the Kentucky Public Library Associate (KPLA) spring conference, held last month at the Lexington Griffin Gate Marriott Hotel and Spa. The title was awarded to individuals who have been employed by their library for less than five years, based the strength of their contributions to push their library forward.
"I am honored to have been selected as a Fresh Face and am excited for the continued learning experiences I will gain as a participant," said Fawbush. She serves as the library's Community Relations Coordinator as well as the Board Liaison for the Friends of the Laurel County Public Library. Fawbush is known for organizing the library's special adult programs.
"I wanted the library to be accessible to everybody, that's why we've reached out to those groups of people," explained Fawbush. She added that the library also strives to offer accessibility options for those who may have physical disabilities.
"I started working at the library in September of 2015 because it was a wonderful opportunity to use my degree at a place I already loved," Fawbush said. She graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in 1997 with a bachelor's in public relations.
"My plan going forward," she continued, "is to help provide dynamic and accessible learning programs for adults in our community." Fawbush plans to utilize event planning and programming ideas acquired from future meetings with KPLA executives and peers.
Fresh Face honorees received a full complimentary registration to the conference, recognition online and in print and opportunities to learn from KPLA executive leadership, committee chairs and fellow Fresh Faces at future committee meetings and other events. The next Fresh Faces recipients will be announced at the Kentucky Library Association annual conference on October 24 through 25 at the Holiday Inn University Plaza in Bowling Green.
