Online retailer TrollandToad.com has brought 180 new jobs to Laurel County, filling 300,000 square feet of space in the building left vacant by American Greetings Corporation in North Corbin.
“Everyone at the company seems happy about our move to Corbin, as well as the incredible rate of growth that we are experiencing at TrollandToad.com,” Chief Executive Officer Jon Huston said.
TrollandToad.com is a retailer of hobby games specializing in collectible, out-of-print, single unit games as well as current games. Products include collectible card games, such as Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh!, collectible miniatures, board games, role playing games, game supplies and toys.
The company is hiring and has added 20 new local employees to their ranks in the past two weeks. TrollandToad is looking to hire more than 50 new employees over the next 12 months for various positions, which range from entry level to middle management.
TrollandToad.com plans to hold a job fair from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 13 at 250 American Greeting Card Road.
The company, which moved from Barbourville, opened its new headquarters last week. It was founded in 1993 and maintains inventory to provide purchase requests from eBay, Amazon and its own website.
“It’s a good thing for the county,” said Charlie Pennington, executive director of the London-Laurel County Industrial Authority. “This is one of the top-growing companies in the country.”
Indeed, TrollandToad.com has been named one of America’s fastest-growing, privately-held companies by Inc. Magazine. It was ranked 1,004 on the list. The company’s revenues jumped to $8.6 million in 2009 from $2.1 million in 2006.
The former American Greetings one million square-foot building is now occupied by TrollandToad, Begley Lumber and Kentucky Cabinet Corporation.
