Construction of a student drop-off lane and additional parking at East Bernstadt Independent School is scheduled to be completed by the start of the 2008-09 school year.

“It’s going to give us a place where traffic can pull off the road,” Superintendent Homer Radford said. “It’s just a lane they can drive around and drop their children off. It will go on the west side of the school. The exit and entrance will be on School Street. At the present time, traffic stops in front of the school and the students get out there. We’re anticipating very much the construction of this because it will allow traffic to pull off the street into the lane, drop the students off, and then pull back off onto the street.”

Other business acted on during the November 13 board meeting included:

• Approved student contracts with Laurel and Jackson counties.

• Accepted an offer of assistance in the amount of $5,231 from the School Facilities Construction Commission. “This offer is to be used for technology and it also has to be matched with local district funds,” Radford said.

The next meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Dec. 11 at the central office on east KY 3094.
