Tammy Parrett learns she will receive a $20,000 performance award for her dedication to her job at HSBC.

With dollar-shaped balloons bobbing in the cubicles at HSBC, Brian Boggs and Tammy Parrett got the surprise of their lives Tuesday afternoon when they were each handed a check for a cool $20,000.

The surprise announcement was made by Supergirl and Captain America, also known as employees Martina Yantis and Al Davis, who “flew in” to announce last year’s recipients of the 4 Star Performance Awards, which are given to those who go above and beyond their regular duties to offer exceptional service to customers.

Yantis was assuring the 460 employees the 4 Star program would be back in 2008, when Site Director Curt Milroy stepped in and announced there were two more rewards to hand out.

Boggs’ name was announced first and as he stepped to the stage, his wife Kathy, sons Joseph and Josh, and parents Rosie and Walter came from another room to greet him.

“This is great,” he said. “This is the best place I’ve ever worked. I want to thank my family and most importantly I want to thank God.”

When Milroy asked him what he planned to do with the money, Boggs pointed to his wife and said, “I’m going to give it to her.”

Milroy was in the process of inviting the employees for cake and punch when he was dramatically interrupted by Yantis and Davis, who announced there was another award to hand out.

Parrett’s name was called, whose family — husband Louis, daughters Tiffany and Brittany, and mother Joann — also greeted her.

“I’m about to pass out,” she laughed. “I’ll take you all out to eat.”

After the ceremony Boggs, who has worked as a collection employee for two years, said he plans on using the money to pay for his new home. He credits hard work and compassion for his success.

“I go all out everyday,” he said. “I treat people how I want to be treated. And I use what tools that are needed to get the job done.”

Parrett’s family was informed of the surprise Monday evening.

“It was all I could do to keep it quiet,” Louis laughed.

After further consideration, Parrett plans on paying off her car so she can give it to her 17-year-old daughter Tiffany. Her daughter Brittany, who has recently married, gets a new living room suite. Parrett has worked at HSBC as a collections specialist for five years.
