Harold Reams

Former magistrate and county roads foreman Harold Reams was found dead in his southern Laurel County home Saturday morning.

Police continue their investigation into the shooting death of former Laurel County magistrate and roads foreman Harold Reams.

Reams, 59, was found dead in his Harold Reams Road home early Saturday morning by an unidentified family member.

Deputy Coroner Britt Brown said Reams had been shot once in the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities suspect Reams may have been killed Thursday night.

An autopsy was scheduled for Saturday afternoon; preliminary results have yet to be released.

Kentucky State Police Detective Mark Allen confirmed the shooting is being investigated as a homicide. As of Monday morning, no arrests have been made.

Friends told reporters Reams was planning to visit his girlfriend this weekend, and may have been on the phone with her when he was shot.

Reams served as roads foreman from January 2003 until last Monday, when magistrates voted not to ratify his reappointment to the position.

He also served as sixth district magistrate for eight years.

Cumberland Valley Crimestoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the capture of Reams' killer. Call 878-CRIME (2746) with any tips; callers may remain anonymous.
