The “Cique de Madhouse” featured black lights that highlighted the neon costumes of the 12 dancers in the performance.

Five years ago, Rhythm Dance Studio opened its doors on North Main Street in the Kroger Plaza with 21 students.

Last weekend they celebrated those five years and their past season with a recital highlighting “Psychedelic Circus.”

Complete with the ringmaster, bearded lady, magician, strong man, costumed animal characters and symbols of the circus setting, the 200-plus students danced through a variety of numbers including  “Clownin’ Around,” “Mime Movement,” “Trippy Trapeze Tots,” and “Hyponotic Hooligans.” The latter part of the performance featured black light numbers with hula hoops and neon costumes for a visual effect that left a lasting impression.

The ceremony also honored the first students who have completed all five years with Rhythm Dance Studios, as well as owners Johnna Phelps Cessna and Kelly Kidd.

Rhythm Dance Studio is located on North Main Street and offers classes during the summer with new dance classes offered this fall. For more information, call (606) 309-9906.
