Over two months after his death, the wife of London attorney Larry Gilliam was indicted for his murder.
Lisa Gilliam, also known as Lisa Ball, Lisa Hacker, and Lisa Rena Gilbert, was indicted on Friday for the death of Larry Gilliam by shooting him in the chest on Jan. 7. Lisa Gilliam lists an address of 37 Bridge View Road in Nancy but was working as her husband’s office assistant at his London law office.
Attorney Scott T. Foster, who Lisa Gilliam hired two weeks ago, said he was surprised by the indictment but proclaimed her innocence in the matter.
“I believe the evidence will show my client is innocent,” Foster said Friday afternoon.
Police swarmed Gilliam’s law office at 129 East Fourth Street that fateful Friday afternoon to conduct the investigation into a shooting incident. Gilliam was taken from his law office by ambulance but was pronounced dead at Saint Joseph-London within an hour after the shooting.
Laurel County Dispatch’s 9-1-1 received a call just before 3 p.m. from Lisa Gilliam, who was the only other person in the office when the shooting incident occurred. London City Police Chief Stewart Walker said Lisa Gilliam was questioned immediately after the shooting but she was not being held on charges at that time.
No information regarding the status of the investigation was released by police prior to Friday’s indictment. Walker said earlier this month that officials investigating the incident were still waiting on autopsy and forensic reports from Frankfort, which could take up to 90 days from the date of Gilliam’s death.
Gilliam had practiced law in London for several years after receiving his law degree from Florida Coastal School of Law and being admitted to the Florida and Kentucky Bar Association in 2002.
An indictment is an accusation only and does not imply guilt or innocence.
