Traffic was stalled for hours on south U.S. 25 following a three-car vehicle crash that claimed the life of a Hartford, Ky., woman who was a passenger in the white Mercury Capri. This was the county’s 16th traffic fatality of the year.

Traffic on U.S. 25 from London and Corbin was at a standstill for hours as the investigation and cleanup from a three-vehicle crash was underway Thursday afternoon.

The accident claimed the county’s 16th victim of the year — Jennifer Stevens Scott of Hartford, Ky. — and sent two other people to Saint Joseph London for treatment of injuries.

Information from the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office states that 36-year-old Thomas Garrett Jr. of Corbin was traveling north on U.S. 25, four miles south of London, when he pulled his green Nissan Sentra onto the shoulder of the roadway to make a U-turn. Garrett’s vehicle collided with a white 1991 Mercury Capri which was traveling northbound, with the impact sending the Capri into the southbound lane where it struck another vehicle, a black Chevrolet Tahoe driven by 54-year-old Patricia Mink of Mt. Vernon, Ky.

Jennifer Scott was the passenger in the Capri that was driven by her husband of only two months — 33-year-old Joshua Scott, also of Hartford, Ky. Jennifer Scott was pronounced dead at the scene by a Laurel County Deputy Coroner. Joshua Scott and Mink, the driver of the Tahoe, were both transported to the London hospital by Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County.

Detective Richard Dalrymple, an accident reconstructionist for the sheriff’s office, is conducting the investigation into the accident. Assisting at the scene were Laurel Sheriff’s Senior Sgt. Greg Poynter, Deputy Robbie Grimes, London Police Sgt. Chris Edwards, members of the London-Laurel County Rescue Squad and members of the Lily Volunteer Fire Department.

This is the fourth traffic fatality in Laurel County in less than one month. On Nov. 20, two persons died in an accident on Old Richmond Road, near the Pittsburg Park. An elderly man died in a two-car crash on Dec. 4 on Ky. 192 near the Cold Hill community.
