“It’s such a fine line between stupid and clever.”

Those were the immortal words uttered by David St. Hubbins in the classic movie, “This Is Spinal Tap.” Those same words could be used to describe some of the happenings in today’s World Wrestling Entertainment.

Take CM Punk, for example. Seems he’s in the dog house for openly disagreeing with the lay-out of the Elimination Chamber match at ECW’s terrible “December to Dismember” pay-per-view. So much, in fact, that he lost last week on TV to the horrible Hardcore Holly.

Arn Anderson, an agent for the WWE, told Punk that “after 14 years on WWE television, Holly is the bigger star.” Also, it’s being reported that Vince McMahon has suggested the Punk turn heel.

Now, Punk is without a doubt the most over performer in ECW today, rivaling Rob Van Dam. Of course, McMahon didn’t create Punk, and we all know that, if Vinny Mac didn’t invent you, you don’t get pushed like you should.”

For me, Punk is probably the most exciting wrestler in the WWE. But since he let his true feelings be known, he’s being punished for that. Bet that never happens to Triple H, or Shawn Michaels.

Here’s another example of how the WWE is being “stupid,” not “clever.” It’s being reported that the organization is planning on hiring more models soon. The feeling is that they need more nice looking people in order to get the ratings up.

Hey, brainiacs, how about offering some quality wrestling and better story lines? I’ve also heard that Vince thinks the reason ECW’s ratings are down is because there’s not enough humor in the show! Believe me, ECW fans don’t want humor. They want, well, extreme wrestling. And there’s nothing funny in that.

Today’s version of ECW pales in comparison to the ECW of yesterday. ECW alumni like The Sandman, Tommy Dreamer, Sabu and Balls Mahoney are being pushed aside for the likes of Holly, Test, Matt Striker and Mike Knox. Even RVD, since his drug arrest last summer, is still being punished, and will probably be for quite some time.

Funny, I heard that during the “December to Dismember” ppv, Van Dam’s wife was heard chanting “TNA, TNA” along with a good portion of the crowd. Whether Vince wants to admit it or not, TNA is growing, and could soon be legitimate competition for the WWE. If you ask me, they already offer better wrestling and story lines.

Last Monday night we were offered a “Donald vs. Rosie” match on Raw, with a fake Donald Trump and Rosie O’Donnell. And oh, boy. The Great Khali is now on Raw! Just another big man with no talent that Vince feels deserves a push.

Meanwhile, over on TNA Impact, there’s an intriguing story lines featuring Sting, Abyss and Christian Cage, Samoa Joe and Kurt Angle, America’s Most Wanted, Rhino and A.J. Styles, the X-Division, and Team 3D (the Dudley Boys) and LAX.

Looks like no contest to me.
