The North Laurel Jaguars suffered a tough 3-1 loss to visiting Madison Central last Thursday night in girls’ soccer action.

North Laurel quickly took possession of the game early on, making some great passes and give and goes. Coach Naomi Puskar said her team played with intensity in winning balls out of the air, denying the Indians any chances to score.

A Jaguar player who given a red card due to a retaliation foul, leaving North Laurel playing a girl short for the rest of the match.

The Jags continued to attack the goal and their efforts paid off when Betsy Harp sent a nice pass to Kayla Bargo, who scored with three minutes left in the first half.

Central then came out and scored three second half goals to take the 3-1 win.

“Overall my girls played a tough game and they did extremely well playing with a player down,” Puskar said. “Our defense really stepped up and kept us in the game.

North ended their regular season Saturday hosting Letcher Co. Central for Senior Night. The Jags will now face Corbin tonight at 8 p.m. in the opening round of the girls’ district tournament, being played at Corbin. South Laurel will take on Middlesboro in the opening game at 6 p.m. The finals will be Wednesday at 7 p.m.
