South Laurel’s Jessica Dean has been named the 13th Region Player of the Year by the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches.
Dean, a senior guard, helped lead the Lady Cardinals to the 50th District title and a berth in the semifinals of the 13th Region Tournament. She was South’s leading scorer this season, averaging nearly 15 points per game.
Dean joins North Laurel coach Roy Bowling, who was honored as the KABC 13th Region Coach of the Year.
By being named Player of the Year, Dean will now participate in the 2010 East/West All-Star Game, which will be held March 13 at 3:15 p.m. at Warren Central High School. Proceeds of this game got to support Coaches vs. Cancer and the KABC Coaches Catastrophic Assist Fund.
The KABC also supports Autism Awareness and the Ronald McDonald House, along with many awards programs to recognize players and coaches.
The East team will be coached by Cindy Stuart and Pete Fraley, while the West will be coached by Terry Buckles and Tim Mudd. Middlesboro’s Samantha Coleman will be the other representative from the 13th Region.
