WINCHESTER—North Laurel’s dreams of a state title came to an end in extra innings Tuesday, falling to Marion County, 4-1, in the girls’ 9-10 year old state tournament.

“It’s just really a tough loss,” coach Recil Jones said. “We had bases loaded in the fourth and fifth innings and couldn’t score.”

Payten Gregory started for North Laurel in the circle and kept her team in the game before having to be removed after the seventh inning due to the pitch count. An inning later, Marion County scored three runs.

“They scored those runs and that was it,” Jones said. “The missed opportunities really cost us. We just came up short.”
