The North Laurel All-Stars will be playing in the girls’ Central Region Little League National Tournament in Joplin, Missouri on Monday.

The North girls will be playing four games to earn a seed before the tournament play begins. After being seeded it’s win or go home time.

The girls have been playing together for several years and many of the team members were on the state championship team two years ago.

North Laurel coach Steve Elkins likes his teams chances in performing well against teams from around the country.

“I believe we will do pretty good,” Elkins said. “We have to play loose and confident and good things will happen.”

Although the team is loaded with talented athletes, Elkins admits it is the team chemistry that has been the backbone of his team’s success.

“One of our strongest assets is our team chemistry,” Elkins said. “They enjoy being with each other and they are a really close group of kids.”

Although the girls reached their goal of the winning the state championship, they are excited about making the trip to Missouri and representing Kentucky.

“They are really excited,” Elkins said. “They can’t wait to get there. I told them that we reached our goal but now we need to keep it going. Winning the state was tough, but we got the monkey off our back. Now we have to play hard every game. If we relax it could be the difference in making it to the next step or going home. They just need to have fun and enjoy the fact they made it there.”
